Animate's Persona 30th anniversary program is expanding across Asia and North America, with limited shops, a purchase fair, and Gratte cafe collaborations scheduled from September 12 through November 15, 2026.

Animate and Sega announced on September 10, 2026 that the fourth installment of their year-long collaboration project will celebrate the Persona series' 30th anniversary through a coordinated rollout in Japan and overseas. The plan combines limited-time Animate-only shops, a purchase fair, and Gratte cafe collaborations, giving fans several ways to encounter the franchise in physical stores as the anniversary year moves into its international phase.

What Was Announced

The announcement covers three connected programs. The Animate-only shops will sell new Persona merchandise and create themed spaces, with game demo machines planned at some overseas locations. The fair will offer an eight-design clear-bookmark bonus under the Japanese purchase conditions. Gratte locations will sell character-printed drinks, icing cookies, or graphic ice, depending on the store and market.

The campaign is part of a one-year Sega x Animate project built around eight Sega Group intellectual properties. Animate says the wider project reaches more than 140 stores in Japan and abroad. For Persona, the new merchandise spans the series rather than focusing on a single game. The official product information lists protagonists and motifs from Revelations: Persona, Persona 2, Persona 3, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4, Persona 5, Persona 5 Royal, and Persona 5 X. Examples include a 30-type Aurora Art Collection, metal keychains, flight tags, logo cushions, acrylic magnets, and embroidered sticker patches.

Here is the currently published schedule for the overseas-only-shop rollout:

DatesLocations
September 11-28Animate Taipei and Kaohsiung
September 12-27Animate Korea Hongdae, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur
September 19-October 4Animate Los Angeles and Hong Kong
September 24-October 18Shanghai Flagship Store, Shanghai Wujiaochang, Hangzhou, Beijing, and Chengdu
October 3-25Animate San Francisco

The Japanese fair runs at all Animate stores in Japan and the Animate Online Shop from September 19 through October 25. Overseas fair dates currently listed are September 11-28 in Taichung, September 12-27 at Animate Korea Busan, Jamsil Lotte, and Suwon, September 24-October 18 in Guangzhou and Xiamen, and October 31-November 15 at Animate Xinyi. The fair's Japanese terms give one clear bookmark for every 1,100 yen in eligible purchases or qualifying reservations, but Animate explicitly says overseas conditions should be checked with each store.

Why It Matters

Persona's 30th anniversary is being expressed here as a history of playable worlds, not only as a single new-game promotion. Putting the original 1996 title and later entries in one merchandise and exhibition program gives older fans a reason to revisit the series while making its catalog legible to people who entered through Persona 3, Persona 4, Persona 5, or the mobile title Persona 5 X. The product lineup is therefore part of the news: it confirms that the anniversary campaign is designed to acknowledge multiple eras and casts.

The overseas schedule also shows how Japanese fan retail is being used as an international cultural channel. Fans in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Taipei, Seoul, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, and several Chinese cities are not being asked to wait for a Japan-only celebration. They receive local store windows, localized event pages, and in some cases planned gameplay stations. That does not make the campaign a worldwide release of a new Persona game, and no such game announcement is included here. It does show a deliberate effort to move an anniversary experience through Animate's existing network.

For the franchise, the format may matter as much as the goods. A themed shop, a cafe menu, and a bonus campaign invite different kinds of participation: collecting, visiting, photographing, and meeting other fans. The official notice says some overseas stores may sell games and may install demo machines, but it does not yet identify every title or promise the same setup at every location. Those limits are important because the practical experience will vary by city.

Context for International Fans

The most useful distinction is between the three programs. An only shop is the larger themed retail installation, with new products and possible game demos. The fair is a bonus-gift promotion tied to eligible purchases or reservations. Gratte is a cafe collaboration with themed food and drink. A city can host one, two, or all three, so a fan should not assume that a listed only shop automatically has the Japanese fair's bookmark terms or the full Gratte menu.

For North American fans, Los Angeles is scheduled for September 19 through October 4, while San Francisco is scheduled for October 3 through October 25. The official English promotional graphic also identifies Los Angeles alongside the Animate USA Online Shop for the fair artwork. That is a useful lead for fans outside California, but the announcement does not provide a universal shipping promise, inventory guarantee, or complete online bonus policy. Check the English Animate page and the relevant store or online-shop listing before placing an order.

All dates above are local event dates. The published announcement does not list opening hours for every overseas location, and it says overseas fair conditions can differ by store. Some products are random-design items, and bonuses may run out. The official pages also warn that schedules, quantities, and event contents may change, be postponed, or be canceled. International fans should treat the dates as the current official plan rather than a guarantee of stock.

What Happens Next

The first immediate checkpoint is September 12, when the Hongdae, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur only shops and Gratte locations are scheduled to begin. The next major checkpoint is September 19: the Japanese fair and Gratte campaign start, the Ikebukuro Flagship Store only shop opens, and the Los Angeles and Hong Kong only shops are scheduled to begin. The official notice also lists special Persona video playback on the large monitor at Animate Ikebukuro from September 18 through September 24.

Before those dates, fans should verify four details on the official pages: whether their local store is hosting an only shop, fair, or Gratte program; the local purchase and bonus rules; whether a demo machine or game sales are actually confirmed; and whether the online shop can ship to their country. The next official updates may fill in those gaps, but they should not be filled by assumptions based on another city's schedule.
